This research aimed to understand the transformation process of the spatial organization in the Hoya del Rio Suarez as a potential area in the expansion of the sugar-energy sector (ethanol) and the impacts on the panela subsector. This area is composed of 13 municipalities, but three of the most representative in the national production were chosen (San Benito, Barbosa, and Güepsa), being some of the main producers of panela in the eastern region of the country. On the one hand, this region is understood to be one of the largest producers of panela since 1939, located in the Eastern Andean Cordillera between the states of Boyacá and Santander. On the other, this area has also been studied as a prospect for the expansion of the energy agro-industry so that the country can increase its ethanol production capacity, including peasant economies such as that of panela. The pan is one of the most representative foods of Colombian culture and in some areas of the country pan is still produced in the ancestral way, from knowledge that is transferred from generation to generation by families and is used by many farmers as the main source of energy for their hard work, because of its high energy value. Furthermore, the research sought to understand, in the study area, the effects of the implementation of sugar and ethanol projects at the level of territory, possibly generating changes in the form of land use, traditional production, and the immersion of neoliberal and capitalist policies into an area of peasant tradition. This understanding allowed us to visualize the scope, advantages, disadvantages and short and long term impacts of the expansion of the sugar-energy frontier on the rights of peasants and family economies that produce pot, especially in areas traditionally dedicated to this activity. In the methodological structure, aiming to reach the proposed objectives, the present work is defined as descriptive, qualitative, and exploratory research. The qualitative approach sought to deepen the understanding of the phenomena, from the perspective of the participants, ideal for reviewing the territorial reconfiguration of the sugar cane subsector from a critical approach that allows us to analyze the phenomenon. As a result, it has become evident that the structures of breweries' production have been maintained to date despite the impacts generated by the attempts to expand the sugar-energy sector in the Hoya del Rio Suarez.
